Sally Tamayo, MD, FACC, graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and cell biology, cum laude, from the University of California in San Diego in 1992. She received her medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland in 1996. She completed her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Naval Medical Center San Diego, California.
Dr. Tamayo has practiced cardiology in the Hampton Roads area for over 15 years. She retired as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy, proudly serving our country with 27 dedicated years. She deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom to Navy Expeditionary Medical Facility Kuwait. She was the Department Head of Cardiology at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth for 5 years. Her professional interests include general cardiology, heart failure, echocardiography, and women’s health.
Dr. Tamayo is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease and holds an appointment as Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She is dedicated to patient safety, having been involved in postmarketing safety studies with presentations at several international and national scientific meetings. During her free time, she enjoys traveling, gardening, physical fitness and spending time with her twin boys.
