Biography

CDR Bhatt is originally from Gahanna, Ohio and is a graduate of The Ohio State University (BSBA Finance/Economics, BS Biochemistry, MS Biochemistry, 2000-2006).  Upon completion of his master’s degree in Biochemistry, he attended Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (MD, 2006-2010) through the Health Professional Scholarship Program.  He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Navy in 2010 completing his internship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2011.  He went on to do a residency in Internal Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth from 2011 to 2013.  After residency, he returned to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to complete a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (2013-2016). 

During his first staff tour (2016-2020) as a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician at Naval Hospital Guam, he served as the Director of Medicine, ICU Medical Director, Command Process Improvement Officer, and the Chair of the Infection and Prevention Control Committee.

He then joined Naval Medical Center San Diego (2020-2023) where he served as the Department Chair of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and earned the Associate Master Clinician Award.  During this tour he was the lead Critical Care physician on three COVID response missions to crisis areas in New Mexico and Texas.

In 2023, he became an Undersea Medical Officer after successfully completing training at the Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, CT and the Naval Diving Salvage Training Center at Panama City, FL. 

In addition to being an Undersea Medical Officer, CDR Bhatt is triple board certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Internal Medicine and holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
